Browning Grass- Increase Frequency or Duration?

I gave up on the deep watering theory a long time ago. As a theory it makes sense but no matter how long I water seems I can’t get deep enough with thousands of dollars water bill. I am of the thinking that only rain can water it deep. My job is to water a little bit to keep it cool until the next rainfall.

Flow meter - there is no flow

I have gen 3 and the flow meter installed for 2+ years and all was good until this morning when it complained “low flow detected” - the details for the message show zero gallons per hour. When I do the calibration it says “no flow was detected”. Water is coming out of sprinklers as usual and nothing seems wrong.

Ethernet port a requirement, when add?

Hypothetically speaking if someone showed you a poll of rachio users where 99% said they don’t care about wired port 1. you would not believe it and 2. insist that rachio build for the 1%?

Anyone able to identify this moss?

Can’t confirm 100% but looks like moss. I also have it where there is less grass and sun shines less. Mother nature will cover that bare ground with something!

Winterizing Wireless Flow Meter

I didn’t do anything to mine and it survived the first winter last year in Virginia. I don’t know how many more it will survive though. If we should something to protect it from cold, I would also like to hear from Rachio.

High flow notification won't go away

The problem for me was there was a notification that was preventing the message to go away after calibration. Support helped me with it. It’s the small icon on the top right of the app (on iPhone anyway). After I archived/cleared the notification, the hi-flow message went away.

Schedules are lacking needed features!

I wanted to water every 1-2 hours from 9am to 4pm for 2 minutes per zone to keep the seed moist. I had to create a LOT of schedules.

Why did Rachio decide to have no dials

May be the answer is another limited app installed on a <$50 android phone, mounted in a waterproof box next to the controller?

My lawn is turning brown and I can’t figure out how to adjust the settings

Depending on where you live, I have seen that you have a PUMP a lot of water and fertilizer to keep the lawn green in summer. For example with 90 degrees plus temp, most of it tries to go dormant. If I give it a “light” watering every day, and some of it turns green. I am unsure how much water you want to give.

Water every day if temp greater than a certain number and no rain in last 24 hours?

I am finding that the deep 2 day a week water cycle (daily flex) is not working well for summer (june, july). Rain hits often and the nature does the deep cycle on its own. The grass is getting burnt in the heat. I would like Rachio to water every day at 2:00pm if the temperature is over x (set to 85).

Subscription service

The only guarantee in life is death. Everything else is faith or gamble! I have seen products die when they start to force app subscription fees with the hardware so I would hate to see Rachio go that route.

DIY weather station mainly for rain?

I have a Version 3. Does anyone think this is possible? Problem: I can’t get accurate local rain data. There were thunderstorms and heavy rain sunday evening and on monday the zones are only ~50% full. Solution: Create a DIY weather station with arduino ESP8266 mostly for rain sensor only.

Use cases for integrations?

I was thinking to turn the sprinklers on when it detects motion in the yard to prevent cat/dogs doing their business burning the turf but it started turning the sprinklers on way too often on people also! Ring camera needs a “pet” detection mode!

Will "before sunrise" be fixed this year?

Rachio 3 and Smartthings

I put this in for dogs and then the mail delivery guys were getting wet to had so stop it! I need a motion sensor that can specifically detect dogs and cats somehow.

I know there are many threads about this already. I will add one more and hope Rachio can see the demand for it. Even with all the intelligence, I find that Rachio over waters.

Best wi-fi option for renters

I had that before (not for Rachio) and the tenants downloaded torrents and whatnot I got all the notices. So, be careful with that.

That's a good point. I don’t have watering restrictions, just have that setup and it seems to work.

Thanks! Does that affect anything if lawn needs more water in the heat of the summer sun? Does it make it fixed forever?
