**Background:** I live in a suburban neighborhood where the HOA covenant requires irrigation systems in the front yard. Previous owners upgraded to a whole-yard eight-zone irrigation system. As of spring 2021, I am new to smart irrigation controllers, specifically the Rachio 3.
