Am I able to hardwire the Rachio 3 to my network using an Ethernet cable? Or, is it only connectable via wifi?

Sorry, it’s Wi-Fi only. If you have Wi-Fi coverage at the controller location, don’t be concerned about the additional traffic; it’s only about 60 kilobytes per hour. Also, don’t worry about reliability, the controller does a good job of automatically reconnecting after a loss of connectivity.
If there is presently no Wi-Fi coverage and you don’t need it there for anything else, a cheap repeater at less than $20 is likely sufficient.
If the Ethernet cable you mentioned is already present, consider adding an access point that will provide good general Wi-Fi for barbecues or other activities near the controller, or for other IoT devices such as fountain lighting or security sensors.

Just putting my fiber optic system in and going without wifi. I love the quality of the home without wi-fi.
Did you know that it really is a thing that wi-fi disrupts the body? I have a wi-fi router and I will turn it on to adjust my watering schedule. I am just not “living with it”. Remember we went through this with microwave. It is a thing. Thanks for the clarity. I know how to care for my system.

It would be nice to have a network port. My Rachio 3 is constantly disconnecting and does not automatically reconnect. It gets stuck with the second set of lights flashing and I have to go manually power cycle it about every 3-4 days. I have strong signal with a full Ubiquiti internet system.
If this keeps it up, Rachio will be a short lived product for me. I’ll go to something more stable with a wired connection.

I wonder if it is something about your network configuration that Rachio does not like. I use Ubiquiti with no problems whatsoever. Maybe Rachio support can help figure out what is going on??? I do not have any close since it works well for me without any issues.
